Warning – This Blogpost will be upsetting

I am not an activist but I abhor cruelty and injustice and this is what I am writing about in this week's Something for the Weekend Blog.
What I would like to achieve is to get as many people as I can to sign this Government Petition
Read no further if you do not want to feel sick to the core of your stomach but PLEASE, if you do nothing else this weekend, sign this petition to highlight the grievous bodily harm and child abuse that is happening in our country today.
It was over 20 years ago that I read about Female circumcision, as it was then termed, in the Newham Recorder I didn’t know what it was or what would be involved. Censorship, at that time, meant avoiding the horrific description of this barbaric crime. But I do know now.
Yes, I feel strongly about this. As strongly and physically sick as I do about the horrors that Jimmy Saville and his heinous companions have, do and will inflict on their child victims.
The beautiful, articulate (and mutilated) Leyla Hussein will tell you all you need to know in the Channel 4 programme The Cruel Cut but I defy you to be able to watch it all. Despite my knowledge of what is involved, I could not watch past the first ad break.
But my memory of what I did hear, is of the description of a little girl having her knees held to her shoulders with the weight of a large woman (woman - this is done to their little girls?!) and the screaming of the (obviously) terrified little girl shouting 'their cutting me, their cutting me'.
Please, please, please just do this this weekend. If you have a daughter, niece or sister or any little girl who helps you relate to their vulnerability, PLEASE follow this link and do something worthwhile.

Don’t sit and do nothing and repeat what we are discovering from the Operation Yewtree Investigation. Don't think how can women do this to little girls, if you feel unable to add your name to the fight against it.
Thank you for reading this blog.

Thanks to the Daughters of Eve for the lovely photo of Leyla
